While 1v1 BFM is a fundamental building block for success in the WVR arena, it is generally not representative of the engagements pilots are likely to encounter in the fleet. In combat, aircrews do not operate alone.

This course will build upon the 1v1 BFM foundation and introduce WVR tactics for the basic fighter unit - the section.

This course was adapted by J. "Rebound" Bloomingdale, R. "Hawkeye" Klein and K. "Blackout" Goldberg.

This course covers the DCA air-to-air specialty.

Fighter aircraft exist for the purpose of denying enemy air asset usage. This course is designed to teach the basics of intercepts and Beyond Visual Range engagements from the initial call from an Air Intercept Controller, such as AWACS, all the way to the merge.
This course covers the basic fundamentals of the BVR timeline.

This course covers the OCA air-to-air specialty.

While the employment of tactical fighter aircraft has continued to evolve due to advances in aircraft, weapon, and sensor technologies, it still remains that at some point you will find yourself going into the merge with an enemy aircraft. History has continuously proven that the majority of air battles are fought and won in the visual arena. Even in the largest engagements or multi-plane scenarios, for that brief moment when the decision is made to engage an opponent, we are involved in 1v1 BFM. Fighter aircrew must be proficient at 1v1 air combat to minimize time-to-kill and ensure they leave merges unscathed.

In this course, you will begin to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to win after the merge and become successful in the WVR arena.
